Minor fixes

Some minor fixes. Concerning the fix of the zoom making the app stop working this is a temporary fix, a better one would be that the max zoom value depends on the ruler graduations which will be implemented later.

Add the early return in case the zoom didn't change because it is cut off, make an assert instead of the if to check the zoom is not negative and we are good to merge.
