bugfix: ensure variance field is correctly computed

CAULK Robert requested to merge fix/variance-field into develop

The variance field was still using an old attribute from previous iteration of IterativeMoments class.

This MR fixes this.

We also introduce a results check in the gitlab CI which compares results that we trust and track in source to the results generated during the CI.
