Make virtual cluster distribution-independent
Currently the virtual cluster is bound to Ubuntu 20.04 LXD images. This is not necessary because OAR and Slurm seem to work well independent of the Linux distribution of choice. It is also not desirable because the continuous integration environment attempts to mimic target platforms (cf. melissa/melissa#38) like
- Debian 9 with OAR (imitates Grid5000)
- CentOS 7 with Slurm (Eagle II supercomputer at PSNC), or
- CentOS 8 with Slurm (JUWELS supercomputer
Plan:
-
Find out how to download without installing the OAR and Slurm packages in every LXD image. -
aptitude apt-get install --download-only
-
yum yum install --downloadonly
-
dnf dnf install --downloadonly
-
-
Update LXD images with OAR, Slurm package downloads -
Debian -
CentOS
-
-
Make a script similar to set-up-oar.sh
installing the OAR or Slurm packages, respectively, and launching a virtual cluster with a given number of nodes.-
OAR -
Slurm
