Version 1.6 release tasks

Once #592 is done, the following tasks must be done before 1.6 release:

• Update translations (issues #740 (closed), #732 (closed) and #508 (closed)).
• Update version numbers.
• Update release note.
• Make Ubuntu packages.
• Contact Dean Brettle for RPM packages.
