* The Document class no longer uses two images, but only one, for
  an obviously lower memory usage. Hence large volumes may be loaded
  more efficiently.

* Several operations are now multithreaded: surface construction and
  rendering are now more efficient.

* Color LookUp Tables are supported.

* A global stack-based progress bar system is used
