Also fixes client under Python 3.2.4+, where the work-around code
previously raised an Exception during client startup

This is the kind of lesson you happen to learn several times a day, though.

It appears that SIGUSR1 is now used internally by Python - the signal handler
simply never gets called, causing the client never to exit even with the
--daemon command line option. SIGUSR2 happens to work right now, let's hope
it lasts.

Second one should be "unlock," not "lock." Much better. Also, thread 0 should not write to v while others read it.
